Psychologie-Professor Stephen Turner führt zusammen mit ein paar Studenten ein Experiment durch. Turner möchte herausfinden, was Menschen dazu bringt, blind Befehlen zu folgen und anderen Menschen Schmerz zuzufügen. Zu diesem Zweck versetzt er seine Versuchspersonen in eine Situation, die bald außer Kontrolle gerät: Die Studenten werden instruiert, ihren Kameraden durch Elektroschocks Schmerz zuzufügen, wenn diese eine Aufgabe nicht richtig durchführen. Entsetzt verfolgt Turner, wie weit die Studenten bereit sind, zu gehen…
